This remarkable and large basket was created by Yulki Nungumajbarr from Ghostnets washed up on the beaches of Grooyte Eylandt.  We also have a metre long ‘canoe’ basket, a turtle and a doll by other artists from the art centre on the island and will be receiving other work from other communities that work with Ghostnets in the future.   The colours are vivid and the fibre is exceptionally strong!   They’re very striking and beautiful works of art, and an important project to rid our northern Australian beaches of these nets which wash off fishing trawlers and all too easily entangle our wildlife.
