We are pleased to present a pair of paintings by Bugai Whyoulter, a collectible artist, a Matu women from the Western Australian desert – the Pilbara region, where the story of Rabbit Proof Fence was set. The excitement of these artworks, their vitality and spirit is overwhelming. The artist’s intent to pass on culture and knowledge is inspiring. We in the city can so readily dismiss the desert as being an empty place but it has sustained countless generations of Indigenous people who knew how to work with it and survive – a remarkable feat that’s worthwhile taking some time to understand and appreciate. Bugai Whyoulter was recently featured in Art Collector Magazine.
